I recently had the pleasure of paying a visit to Coastal Gardens and Nursery and meeting once again with the owner Ursula Sayre-Herz. Ursula is a hosta hybridizer, lover and kindly expert. She was gracious enough to show me the plants she will one day be bringing to our hosta garden. They are pictured below and they are knock-outs!!!
So come with me as I walk the paths of the nursery and take in a bit of hosta heaven.

Coastal Gardens and Nursery- features their own unique plant introductions, hostas, ferns, bulbs, grasses, shrubs, trees and planting supplies. But hostas are the focus of this unique nursery. Ursula is known for her "PeeDee" hostas, such as PeeDee GoldFlash, Dew Catcher, PeeDee Elfin Bells, PeeDee Absinth and PeeDee Picotee. Other introductions by Ursula include PeeDee Enchantment, PeeDee Laughing River and PeeDee Graymalkin. She also has indroduced her own Ajuga, Iris, Ligustrum and Liriope and Ferns. |
| A Look at the Future... | Description |
|---|---|
| APOLLO A cross of PeeDee GoldFlash and Karossa Regal. This lovely shiney leaved yellow-gold hosta produces and abundant group of sturdy 26" flower scapes with purple flowers in mid-season. |
| ARIEL An absolutely striking dark green hosta with deeply puckered leaves. I have wanted to sneak this one home with me for the last two years. The plant is a cross between Montana BX and Minge Jade. Flower blossoms are white. There is no other hosta I would rather have than this beauty! My picture, regretably, does not do justice to the color of this wonderful creation. |
| CHARLOTTE Named for friend and noted Daylily hybridizer, Charlotte Holman, this large, thick, soft green hosta is a chance seedling believed to be of Minge Jade and Love Pat. The leaves are both cupped and puckered. A very-very nice large hosta with a unique softer green color. |
| SUMMER DRESS Summer Dress is a very good choice for Southern growers looking for a hosta to stand up in hot and humid weather. It is a striking chartreuse to gold leaved plant with slightly ruffled edges. The leaves flare upward, brining even more interest. It is a cross of Kikeika and August Moon. Flowers are near white on oblique scapes. |
| An awsome view of a collection of large (and I do mean large) Sum and Substance. |

| With every turn down the path you'll find views of contrasting Hostas, ferns and other interesting plants. |
